About the Rector

Chinweuba Fabian Obi was born in Onitsha of parentage from Amatutu village in Agulu town in the present-day Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND FORMATION:

  • Primary Education: Holy Trinity Primary School, Onitsha, Onitsha North LGA (1970-1971) and Practising School, Agulu, Anaocha LGA (1972-1974).
  • Post-Primary: St. Paul’s Seminary, Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA (1974-1975) and All Hallows’ Seminary, Onitsha, Onitsha North LGA (1975-1979).
  • Post-Junior Seminary Training: One-year apostolic work at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Isuofia, Aguata LGA, Anambra State (1979-1980).
  • Tertiary (I): B.PHIL., Bachelors in Philosophy (of Pontifical Urban University, Rome), from the St. Joseph’s Major Seminary, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State (1984).
  • Post Tertiary Training: one-year teaching assignment at St. Dominic Savio’s Seminary, Akpu, Orumba South LGA, Anambra State (1984-1985).
  • Tertiary (II): B.TH., Bachelors in Theology (of Pontifical Urban University, Rome), from Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu, Enugu State (1989).

  • Diaconate Ordination (27 December 1988) and Priestly Ordination (12 August 1989) – all at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, Awka South LGA.

  • After sabbatical leave as lecturer (2008/2009), HEB, Bachelors in Ecclesiastical History (2010), HEL, Licence in Ecclesiastical History (2012), and HED, Doctorate in Ecclesiastical History (2017) – all from the Pontificia Università Gregoriana, Roma, Italia.
